Basil Zempilas and Sandra Brewer fire up over Treasurer’s $3b taxpayer bill

As the newly appointed Shadow Treasurer, I am deeply committed to ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency in managing taxpayer funds. During the debate on the $1.9 billion Treasurer’s advance, I emphasized the importance of thorough scrutiny and professional courtesy in handling such significant financial proposals.

I believe the Treasurer’s “insatiable desire to spend the money of Western Australian taxpayers” demands careful oversight. Coming from the corporate sector, I know that a board would expect at least seven business days to evaluate a proposal of this magnitude. Ideally, the Government should aspire to deliver accurate State budgets without relying on excessive future advance authorizations.

My focus remains on advocating for thoughtful, responsible economic policies that safeguard the interests of Western Australians and ensure balanced governance. I am proud to bring my experience and dedication to this important role.
